FAQ

Do you have an artist who works in my preferred style?

Tattoo Workshop houses seven artists who cover every style, from Western Traditional to decorative fine lines. Take a look at ‘Our Artists’ page if you’d like to find out more.

What is a walk-in tattoo and how do I get one?

Walk-in tattoos are small and simple tattoos that don't require a consultation in advance.  For example a name, a short quote or a small symbol or logo would be considered a walk-in tattoo.

Our artists normally allow a little time towards the end of the day for walk-in tattoos.  We do recommend that you give us a call in advance to avoid disappointment.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?

You must be 18 or over, it's the law.
Please make sure to bring a photo ID with you, we will not tattoo you without one.

I am disabled, is Tattoo Workshop accessible?

Absolutely. We want tattoos to be for every body.
Let us know how to best support you before, during or after your appointment and we’ll be happy to accommodate you as best we can.

If you want to scope out our studio beforehand, you’re very welcome to drop in any time during our opening hours for a cuppa.

Do you use vegan tattoo inks?

Indeed we do. We always have oat milk in the fridge for hot drinks too!

I suffer from a medical condition, can you still tattoo me?

You are obliged to disclose and medical conditions on the consent form you will be asked to complete before you get tattooed.

If you suffer from psoriasis or severe eczema, your skin may not be suitable for the tattooing process - pop in for a chat during our opening hours if you would like a professional opinion.

We do not tattoo anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

What is your shop minimum charge?

£80

Do you do touch-ups?

Yes, all our artists offer an initial touch-up on their freshly healed work, free of charge. If you want to get a piece touched-up that you have had done elsewhere, please send us an enquiry and we can get back to you with a price quote.
Do you do cover-ups and re-works?

Yes

Do you do black-out work?

Yes

Do you use a numbing cream?

We don't and we wouldn't recommend it. Numbing creams only work for a short time period, which can often make the pain feel more intense as the cream wears off.

Numbing creams can also affect the application and healing process of the tattoo, so for the best result we advise that you don't use them.

On the other hand, pain relief in the form of Paracetamol, Ibuprofen or Codeine is fine to use so please follow the guidance of your pharmacist.

How can I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Please shower and wear clean clothes (socks especially, if you are going to be taking your shoes off!) on the day of your appointment.

We will shave the area where you are getting tattooed as part of the skin preparation process, so please don't worry about that.

Make sure to wear appropriate clothing: something comfortable that can easily be taped out of the way (zip-up hoodies are great for back pieces!) and/or a pair of shorts or a bikini style top if required.

We do also have privacy screens available for your comfort.

Make sure that you have eaten before your appointment and stay hydrated. Please feel free to bring any snacks and drinks with you.

Protip: avoid caffeine on the day of your tattoo, if you are sensitive to it.

We reserve the right not to tattoo anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol and we advise not to drink heavily the night before your tattoo - being tattooed on a hangover is not the one!

Do you do piercings at Tattoo Workshop?

We don't offer a piercing service or sell body jewellery.

We recommend our friends at Guru, who are a 10 minute walk away.
